HYROX

HYROZ was founded by Toetzke and Fürste in 2017, and the first race took place in Hamburg in April 2018, with 650 participants. They wanted to fill the gap between endurance sports like marathons and functional gym training, creating a global fitness sport that any regular gym-goer can participate in. Hyrox has grown in popularity in recent years. It's accessible to the average gym goer as it doesn't involve anything very technical like CrossFit does. The options of mixed doubles and relay mean people who aren't able, or don't want to, compete by themselves are still able to compete. Since it started, it has expanded to 11 countries, and in 2026, it's expected to have well over 650,000 participants.

What's involved in HYROX

The HYROX race is a global fitness competition, and every HYROX event worldwide is identical, consisting of 8  exercise stations, with a 1km run in between each section.
The stations include 1000m on the ski erg, a 40m sled pull, 40m sled push, a 1000m row, 100m sandbag lunges, 80m burpee broad jumps, 200m farmer’s carry, and 75 wall balls.

When competing, all participants wear a timing chip and receive official finishing times, allowing them to compare results through Hyrox’s global rankings across all events, divisions, and age groups.  You receive a detailed post-race report where you'll see your split time (and how you compare to others) for the running and every exercise. This will help you see where you need to work on to improve next time.
