Record Your Lifts to Improve Your Form
Last week a member of the gym commented on my squat form and how each rep looked the same even when I was fatigued, or when going for a PR. He then asked how I got my form to be this good.
The answer is simple. I consistently tried to improve it every during every set over a long time. It seems obvious, but very few people ever do it.
I've been squatting for years, but even now I still record all my sets and watch them to see if I'm making any mistakes and where I can improve. You should see every set as an opportunity to improve your form. If you do this for a long time and you will greatly improve your form on the big lifts.
However, I rarely see anyone record their lifts unless it's to post to Instagram, and as a result, their form on the exercises doesn't improve, and they continue to make the same mistakes over and over again.
It's very hard to be able to tell what you're doing wrong just by going how it feels when your performing the exercise as you're concentrating on performing the exercise. You might not notice your knees coming in, your hips rising too quickly or you're not bracing well enough. If you record your sets you can see any errors, and then concentrate on putting it right during the next set.
Too amny people have no idea there is a problem with their form. How do you expect to get better if you can't see what you're doing wrong? Stop hoping you'll improve and start being proactive at improving your form. The vast majority of people in gyms have a lot of room for improvement.
Either record your sets and use it to help correct your form. Even better, get a trainer who will be able to do it for you. It will save you time and help you improve much quicker.
